Website Updates
New calendar
Submitted by M.Jaynes on Tue, 09/08/2009 - 21:43You may (or may not if you are new to the site) notice a new "event calendar" is in the works.
I`ve decided to embed a Google calendar rather than use an outdated Drupal module as before. Not only will this *not* be outdated any time soon, it will allow more features like pre-set holidays, simplified printing, and repeating events such as stated meetings are much easier for me to administer in that I don't have to manually enter every single meeting as I did before.
The big drawback to this method is there may a slight number of users that have browsers set to block an "iframe", which is something required to embed the calendar to the webpage here (same goes with the embedded Google Map). I really hope this doesn't affect too many people or it's back to the drawing board! Please let me know if you cannot view the calendar for any reason!
I hope you find the calendar useful as I get more information added over time. I`ll be returning the "Upcoming events" block back to the sidebar as soon as I research how to do it with the new Google calendar :) Upcoming events block is back in action!
Website status
Submitted by M.Jaynes on Thu, 08/20/2009 - 05:58I enjoy a simple, easy to read, and easy to navigate web site. Flash and clutter are not my style. I believe all have been accomplished here, but I`m open to suggestions and I`m always looking to tweak things here and there, so don't be surprised if things move around a bit over time.
I am now awaiting final confirmation if this will even be the "official" web site of GC Lodge 689. After that I need specific authorization to post any content regarding personal information including names, phone numbers, pictures, status, etc.
With stated meetings set to begin soon, I hope the process can move along more quickly. I believe once the membership have a central place of information it will be of value to many.
Another Update
Submitted by M.Jaynes on Sun, 08/02/2009 - 08:19New: there is now a "webmaster" email link (edit: this has been changed ... see bottom of page for webmaster email)
OK, the site is finally looking good and getting tightened up. Of course a good website is never truly "done". I am open to suggestions and critique, in fact that is what I`m relying on at this point.
If you are reading this, please provide any input to me (Mike Jaynes) before we go "live" and start giving out the address to the membership at large.
Things already on my ToDo list:
1) The obvious: Finish content such as phone numbers, email, officer pictures etc. but I need specific authorization as I go.
2) I`d like to incorporate a picture of the lodge somewhere, either in header or front page content Done
3) receive critique from others with different screen resolutions. I have a nice LCD panel with higher 1440x900 resolution, so things look far different here than someone with a older CRT and 800x600 resolution. I`ve tried to make the overall site "slim" to fit low resolutions, but is everything fitting OK ?
Second Update
Submitted by M.Jaynes on Fri, 07/31/2009 - 18:48Here is my second "update", showing how they rotate downwards on the front page. This would be useful for monthly info, death announcements, calendar announcements, reminders, etc. deemed pertinent by secretary, WM, treas., or other authorized members.
New Website! ???
Submitted by M.Jaynes on Fri, 07/31/2009 - 18:18This may be our new website. Please don't "advertise" it until I`ve got the content worked out.
This entry shows how a number of new "updates" can be displayed on the front page. Currently the last 10 updates, or stories, will be displayed and rotated out of view. They are still archived and can be linked to.
